Cereal & Chill Community Highlight: Rena

I think it's important that I use my privileges and opportunities to help those who are less fortunate.

My favorite month of the year has started: the month of Ramadan. During this blessed month, my faith and spirituality are my number one priority. A big part of my Islamic identity is to help those in need and I have always felt as if it was my life purpose to do so. Since I was a little kid, my dream was to build an orphanage somewhere in the world, and this remains one of my life goals to this date. It just makes me so happy to help others and I think it's important that I use my privileges and opportunities to help those who are less fortunate.

This is why I started to create my own projects to support different causes. I have helped Syrian refugees in Jordan, built a library in India, rebuilt a school in Indonesia and financed medical aid in Iraq last December during the protests. This month, I am starting a project to support orphans in Iraq. I've created a video where I explain where I will send the money to. I thought it was a good way to let people know what I am doing for my project, and so many people have shared it on their networks. And of course, the main goal of the video was that people would donate, and they generously did.

With the received donations, I will finance food packages that will be distributed amongst orphans in the cities Hillah, Baghdad, Najaf and Karbala in Iraq. I would also like to buy small Eid presents for the children at the end of Ramadan. This will only be possible if I receive enough money for the food packages, which is my main priority. With the pace it is going now, I will hopefully be able to finance both.

People can support my project in two ways. I've started my own bakery from home, and this month all the profit will go to my Ramadan Project. So, people can order and enjoy my baked goods and support a good cause at the same time. I am working on doing delivery soon as well, but at the moment all orders need to be picked up at Schiedam.   The other option is to immediately donate to my project. I've posted an updated link on my Instagram bio @baked.byrena ; alternatively, people can donate to:  R. Morad   NL49 ABNA 0428 1640 80.

I am already super grateful for those who have been supporting my projects and I really hope this Ramadan Project will be a success too. There are people who have been donating for every single project I have done, and it makes me feel really blessed. I help others in need, but it definitely makes me happy as well.
